O Callaghan Mills (@1.5) vs Tulla (@2.75)

Our Prediction:

O Callaghan Mills will win

O Callaghan Mills – Tulla Match Prediction | 15-09-2019 09:00

The battle on the edge of the square with John Conlon and Aaron Fitzgerald will be vital and if Fitzgerald can break even, Eire g are in with a serious chance. The potential battles of Shane ODonnell v Oisn OBrien and Colm Galvin v David Reidy are also intriguing, but if I was over either team I would be trying to make sure those players are kept away from each other so they can do more damage. Eire g wont be too put out about having the game on in Broadford either because it is a lovely surface and there is not that space for the Clonlara forwards to exploit like you would have in Cusack Park. They will be ready for another challenge and they should be moving on to a quarter-final spot. They were spirited and hungry against Kilmaley and worked to a game-plan and executed it brilliantly. The thing I will be really looking for is can Eire g put performances back-to-back. I think Clonlara have a lovely mix of youth and experience and have that siege mentality and are working for each other. It is the quarter-finals that are on the minds of the other eight teams this weekend and there will be some crackers in that winners round. Looking first at the Eire g v Clonlara tie, the match-ups here are going to be so vital. They are now facing a Clonlara team that are a little more psychical down the spine of the team and will have a big threat up front, so there will need to be a plan for that.

On their day, they can blow teams away in both codes and they have proven that over the last number of years. It has been a difficult few weeks on the field for Cratloe, as they followed up a nervy win over Whitegate with an underwhelming loss against Inagh-Kilnamona. The real issue for Cratloe will be getting the energy levels restored. It remains to be seen if Diarmuid Ryan is ready to return from his shoulder injury while there are also understood to be concerns over Shane Gleeson after he suffered a hand injury. They are two huge players for Cratloe and if they are out, it will be a huge blow to their chances. The overriding feeling from their defeats to Inagh-Kilnamona and Eire g was that it was a Cratloe team who looked to finally be suffering the effects of a gruelling schedule as they struggled to keep pace and were opened up with relative ease. Defeat to Eire g in the football championship last weekend made it a second weekend on the trot that they have come out the wrong side of the result so getting confidence and energy back will be the order of the week. Confidence should not be an issue because everyone in Cratloe and beyond knows the talent they have in their squad.

O'Callaghan's Mills (Irish: Muillte U Cheallachin) is a village in County Clare, Ireland, and a Catholic parish by the same name. It takes its name from the O'Callaghan family who were large landowners in the area and a corn and grist mill built by John Coonan on the lands of Cornelius O'Callaghan in 1772. The community sustains a regular senior Gaelic Athletic Association hurling panel team with county championship achievements at under-age, junior and senior levels.

The return of Rory Hayes was instrumental in their win over Tulla as he provided solid cover to the back six while his use of possession meant quality ball was delivered to Aaron Shanagher. Ben OGorman notched 0-5 from the half-back line while Daithi OConnell and Cian ORourke asked plenty questions of the Tulla defence. There is nothing for Wolfe Tones to lose in trying to take down the champions and they will likely set out to take them on from the front foot. In reality, avoiding the battle for the drop will have been the main focus for the Shannon men this year and now that they have ticked that particular box, there will be a sense of bonus territory about this tie.

When the dust settled, it was Clooney-Quin who came out top before bringing Sixmilerbridge to a replay in the decider. The curve on the graph went sharply in the other direction for Feakle who were relegated back to the intermediate ranks before bouncing straight back up 12 months later. There is plenty recent history to draw on for this one, with their dramatic clash in 2017 going to extra-time.

Eoin and Cathal Hayes will cover plenty ground for Newmarket around the middle third, but Eire g might just have the more balance in that area to make the most of it. On that front, the nod would have to go to Eire g. If there was to be one area that this game might swing on, it could be who has the most pace to exploit the space in HQ. It certainly wont be decided long before the final whistle, but Eire g should just edge it.

There is no doubting the talent available to Kilmaley but Sunday is the day that has to translate into a performance that gets them back into the contenders category. The ghosts of that performance looked to have been exorcised with a ruthless disposal of Whitegate two weeks ago, but events during and after the game have left many questions to be answered. The Clare Cup win earlier in the year should have been the catalyst to push on, but they were brought crashing back to earth with defeat to Eire g in round one. The big challenge for Kilmaley on Sunday is putting all that to the back of their minds and focusing on what is considerable job of work. For all their underage successes and all their brilliant players, Kilmaley are yet to put the silverware alongside the potential.
