Our Prediction:

Tennessee will win

Georgia State – Tennessee Match Prediction | 20-08-2019

Im not sure if Tennessee can pull off another miracle like that, though. Still, this is college football, this is a crucial game, and emotions will be running high. A Tennessee upset isnt impossible, just highly improbable. The Vols still dont have a solid contender for quarterback, and Georgia is firing on all cylinders. Tennessee has been struggling with stopping the run, and UGA has one of the best running games in the country.

It is going to take a while for Geoff Collins to get that offensive roster turned around. Perhaps no team in the country has done a better job in the offseason than Georgia Tech with their social media. They really have done a great job with their marketing. Georgia rolls in Atlanta. Unfortunately, they have 16-17 offensive lineman that have never pass blocked more than a quarter in college.

Tennessee is never a pushover in this game, and it will be closer than Kirby Smart and company might like. Georgias running game is amazing, and no opponent this season has scored more than 19 points on the Dawgs. College football is a mercurial beast and surreal upsets happen all the time. Tennessee could beat Georgia based upon the capricious nature of the college football gods, but that is the only way that the Vols might eke out a win. In the end, though, Georgia will simply overpower Tennesee with their speedy running game and solid defense.

Coming off a solid 7-4 season, The Tigers have a good offense with a dangerous passing game to keep the pressure on. The Tigers are equipped to keep up. If its not sharp right away, and if the Tennessee State can score early and keep on firing away, this could get into a wee bit of a shootout. The bigger issue early on for the Panthers might be an offense that has to try to get used to speeding things up.

Preview 2019: Georgia State. 5 Things You Need To Know, Season Prediction

Im putting my undefeated record on picks this season on the line with this one. This game is the biggest game on Tennessees schedule for a number of reasons. Tennessee may enter this game at 3-1, but this is the game that is going to make and break their season. Forget Georgia Tech, forget Florida. There absolutely no mystery who the underdog will be in Neyland Stadium on Saturday.

I dont think Tennessee has the depth at this point knock off a Georgia type team. This game will come down to quarterback play and can Tennessee force UGA out of their running game. Georgia is more talented than Tennessee still by a good margin. This is a game coming off a bye week that is going to say a lot about this team. Jeremy Pruitt is improving that roster and did so with this 2019 class. If Georgia is a focused team, they will have put the Notre Dame behind them completely and focused on the SEC run they are facing starting with the Vols.

Early media pundits chose Georgia to win the SEC East. Georgia has mighty expectations to meet. Even though Tennessee hasnt been looking great yet this season, Butch Jones presumably wants to keep his job. Right now, its looking like the Dawgs are on track to do so, but they still have this game and the Gator roadblock to pass first. Beating Georgia would go a long way with Tennessee fans.

The defense will be led by former Clemson defensive end Ebenezer Ogundeko. The Brooklyn native was named to some preseason FCS All-American teams after posting 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks last fall. Leading tackler Chris Collins returns at linebacker after being a member of the All-OVC second team last fall. Collins was dynamic in run support as he posted eight non-sacks tackles for loss in 2016. GSU tackles Hunter Atkinson and Sebastian Willer will be tested early and often by Ogundeko.

Fearless Predictions

Its a new day in Atlanta as Shawn Elliott coaches his first game at Georgia State as the Panthers will open the season in the newly renovated Georgia State Stadium. The hype is real on the Georgia State campus and the new 25,000 seat facility located downtown will be very close to a sellout on Thursday night. There is a legit excitement surrounding this young program for perhaps the first time ever and its essential that the Panthers get off to a fast start in 2017.

Tennessee:The Volunteers have to find some sort of offensive identity outside of running back John Kelly -- who has been awesome leading the SEC with 112.5 yards per game on the ground. Quinten Dormady has been inconsistent and throws off his back foot too much, which makes it hard to find some of the talented, yet raw, weapons outside like Marquez Callaway. The Vols need to hit some big plays early if they stand a chance, because digging a hole that Fromm is forced to dig out of is their best -- and perhaps only -- path to victory.

Just one week before, Mississippi State handled a top 15 team in the LSU Tigers in Starkville, MS. Last week, Georgia completely derailed the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 31-3. It really showed the power of the Dawgs this year. This is the second SEC East opponent that Tennessee has faced. However, this is the first time that the Dawgs take on another team from the SEC East.
