I expect Castlerahan to dismiss of them in the quarters.8. Their biggest challenge will be overcoming the Cavan Gaels hoodoo. With 8 teams left I and the league format over I thought now might be a good time to rank each teams chances of lifting the cup1. Lacken- Lacken have had a mixed start but will be happy to be at this stage in a quarter against Lavey. Their only slip up came against Cootehil but if they get over Ramor in the quarters I wouldn't be surprised to see them in a final.4. Cavan Gaels- Gaels will count themselves lucky to make the quarters after a slow start. Crosserlough- The Lough seem to be slowly creeping under the radar and have a young team full of talent. Castlerahan- Apart from losing their last game against Ballinagh, Castlerahan still look the form team. They can only hope the Gaels don't build upon their only win in the group stage.2. They are very dependant on a few key men but when they play at full strength are as good as anyone in the competition. Ramor- Haven't really caught light just yet but have the players capable of it. They have quality all over the field and strength in depth. If they have a full strength team out against Lavey I expect them to come through and they won't be afraid of anyone in a semi.6. Gowna will provide them with a stern test but now that they've qualified I expect them to make the final at the very least.3. Kingscourt- Haven't seen enough to think that they might challenge for the championship and their wins came against two Div. Gowna- A good team with some young guns coming through nicely. They will need a good performance against Crosserlough but if they start firing could ruffle a few feathers.5. However now that its straight knockout I think they will only get better. They had their chance to lay down a marker in the second group game when playing a Gaels team on the ropes but could only come away with a draw. Probably a bit early to be contenders and the fact they have the Gaels in quarters but I don't expect to go out without a fight.7. 2 teams.

They won their first game against Crosserlough last Saturday. They won their first game against Castletara last week but lost their second game away to Kildallan last Sunday by just a point in a high-scoring game. Other teams in our group are Cavan Gaels, Cootehill and Crosserlough. We also have a team in Division 5 along with Ballinagh, Kildallon, Crosserlough, Castletara St Patricks, Shercock and Cuchulainns. Castlerahan v KingscourtSat, 5.30pm, MullaghCastlerahan were caught at the death on Sunday by Ballinagh in what was the only dead rubber of the round (Castlerahan were going through and Ballinagh were not, regardless of the result) so that game can be dismissed out of hand. Kingscourt are as physically strong up the centre (as far as midfield) as any of the sides remaining - Farrelly, Gray, Clarke, Faulkner, Dillon provide the spine while the in-form Philly Tinnelly is the pulse of the team at present. Wins over Lavey and Shercock do not stack up well against Castlerahan's form 'in the book' in victories against Cootehill and Ramor and a draw with Cavan Gaels. To win, they will need goals and they managed seven of those in the group but someone needs to take the scoring burden from Barry Reilly, who has kicked 0-18 from dead balls from their total white flag tally of 0-38. However, the suspicion is that they lack firepower and that is borne out by the fact that from the eight teams still standing, only Lacken - whose stats were skewed by their paltry return of 0-7 last Sunday - have scored less. Nothing comes easy against Kingscourt, as Crosserlough will attest, but they are a couple of players short of a championship-winning side (how they have missed the likes of Barry Tully and the retired Philip Smith) and the feeling is that Castlerahan, or the team that beats them, will be just that. Kingscourt, for their part, gave it everything to get both points against Crosserlough but came up short. It is hard to make a convincing case for the Stars to get the job done here.

Gaels vs Gowna- I think the big win at the weekend will give the Gaels much needed confidence. Neither team will have wanted to play each other again but I think Gaels will get through this with a 3 point win.Lavey vs Lacken- Depending on Lacken having a full strength team. They were exposed at the weekend when they were missing a few important players.

Gowna, though, have not been leaking many green flags (just two in four group games) which gives them a good shot here, as does the expected absence of Sean Johnston (who was injured in the warm-up) and Kevin Meehan, arguably the Gaels' most important players along with Niall Murray, who is also on the injured list.Johnston makes the Gaels tick - they might not even have won their quarter-final last year but for his late intervention and would not have drawn with Gowna in the group only for his deft handpass which created their late goal - and if he is not playing, the onus will be on the rest of the forwards to step up and win what will not be a cakewalk. Gowna v Cavan GaelsSun, 3pm, LackenGowna's dubious reward for being the only team to come through the group stage unbeaten is a quarter-final tie against the champions at Crowe Park. Gowna's modern day pedigree is such that, like Kingscourt, doubts should not creep in; they will fully believe they are good enough to win this match and won't falter if it's there for the taking. Last week we noted the number of goal chances they had been squandering and that "proven goalscorers like O'Connor and Dunne are bound to find their groove at some stage". Cavan Gaels are likely to be installed as long odds-on favourites to win this one but the game will probably be much closer than the odds suggest. Conor Madden, recently returned from America, has made crucial interventions off the bench in their last two matches and will surely start this time, which is welcome as they have not exactly been free-scoring to date, despite their quality up front. What to make of the Gaels? That occurred in style against Lacken as O'Connor, a brilliant goalscorer and a scorer of brilliant goals, netted a hat-trick and Dunne - off the bench - rifled home another. The men from the lough shore will take heart from the fact that they drew with the Gaels 10 days ago and also earned a draw with Ramor, while beating Ballinagh impressively in their opener and drawing with Shercock.

We lost our first game is away to Maghera last Friday and play Kingscourt away this week.
