Our Prediction:

Brisbane Broncos Women will win

Brisbane Broncos Women – St George Women Match Prediction | 06-10-2019 01:05

George will need to weather the early onslaught from the Broncos crowd and forward pack otherwise they risk losing the game in the early stages, one feels the longer the Dragons can stay in the contest the better their chances are of winning. St. With a big crowd expected for Sam Thaidays last ever game at Suncorp Stadium the Broncos will be full of energy in the opening stages.

Gareth Widdops back, but the Dragons need their forwards to fire for it to matterGareth Widdops return is the factor most Dragons fans will be pointing to saying they have a chance. Thats not strictly true, because they need improvement all across the park, but it is true Widdop has had a damn good season in the Red V.

In stark contrast to their opponents this week, St George-Illawarra are in a form slump and seem to be a shadow of the side that was tearing through their competition in the early parts of the season. But its a new competition starting this week so maybe the smell of finals football will help the Dragons find their fire once again. Despite beating Newcastle on the weekend the Dragons are still searching for that formula that had them running like a well oiled machine during the early rounds, their attack seems void of ideas and their forwards have lost their bite.

St George-Illawarra welcome back captain and five-eighth Gareth Widdop to their starting lineup after he missed the previous three matches.Widdops inclusion is a massive boost to the joint venture club as he will bring the confidence and swagger theyve been missing in his absence, whilst also providing support to the struggling Ben Hunt. Jack de Belin is the big worry for the Dragons with pictures of him on crutches and a moon boot surfacing on Tuesday, the clubs believe he will be fine to play, most likely needing a needle to ease the pain.

There are questions marks over both starting back rowers Tevita Pangai and Alex Glenn who both failed to train on Tuesday, both players are expected to play but Kontoni Staggs and Sam Tagatese are on standby. Brisbane have named hooker Andrew McCullough to start after missing last week as he recovered from the infamous Dylan Napa hit, all reports are he is right to go and has fully recovered.

THE LEAGUE LADY | NRLW Round 3 Preview

When McCullough went down injured last year, I wrote the Broncos wouldnt win the premiership from that moment forward. Most shared my view of things, and while he hasnt been quite as dominant this year, he has still been very good, especially in the last month or so, coming good with consistency alongside the rest of the Broncos side.

Mann will instead play from the bench in number 16. Tariq Sims gets the nod in the back-row after both he and Luciano Leilua were battling for the vacant spot during the pre-season.After Kurt Mann was considered as an outside chance to play in the centres, it is team-mate Euan Aitken who has been given the green light to start for the Dragons.

Many experts believe Brisbane are the form team in the competition and could be a serious premiership threat. After disappointing losses to the Bulldogs and Cowboys, Brisbane rebounded to beat competition favourites the Rabbitohs and Roosters before hammering Manly in their final game. The Broncos are in irresistible form going into the finals with super coach Wayne Bennetts future uncertain. The seven time premiership winner has been able to use all the negative press surrounding the club to galvanise the playing group.

Postseason[edit]

For the Dragons to win: Gareth Widdop needs to play with the flair and freedom which had Paul McGregor's men flying high only eight weeks ago. If he is rusty and fails to gel with Hunt then it could be curtains. Widdop is the heartbeat of the side and if his running game and kicking are on song then the Dragons can fire a warning shot across the bow of the other finalists.

Facing up against the experience of Brisbane Broncos Darius Boyd in the first round will raise an early challenge for the 22-year-old.For Dufty, this head-to-head contest between youth and experience will determine how he compares to one of the best in the game. Dragons fullback Matthew Dufty has shown promising potential and has gathered plenty of hype coming into the season.

In saying this I expect Brisbane to have too much fire power and running in their legs for St. George and in turn I expect Brisbane to come home strong and win. Despite their poor form of late I expect the Dragons to come firing and put in a much improved performance, knowing that a loss will end their season theyll leave nothing out on the field and go for broke.

Haas spent the first part of this season suspended but since hes been back in the team he is showing us that the hype is real. Martin Taupau has been his usual self so far with running over people, busting tackles and throwing offloads. By all reports he is up there with the fittest players at the club and Seibold even has the option of playing him for the full 80 minutes, which is incredible for a front rower. Hugely talented and possessing similar barnstorming skills as Taupau, perhaps the most impressive part of this young guy is his massive motor. He comes up this week against another beast in Payne Haas.

Josh McGuire plays his prefered position of lock, with Joe Ofahengaue back to the bench alongside David Fifita, who is replaced by the returning Alex Glenn. The Broncos have welcomed back Andrew McCullough for the finals after he missed last week with a nasty concussion. The man out of the side is Kontoni Staggs. It means Jake Turpin has been excluded entirely.
